Like many inner town areas, Barry, in the Vale of Glamorgan, suffered from crime and antisocial behaviour problems, largely due to the terraced streets and back lanes becoming homes for criminals and crime. Alleygates were designed to change behaviours, restrict access to the lanes and help to reduce crime.
